Doggie Doorstops

By Gail
My dog-collecting obsession includes great old doggie doorstops. A lucky customer bought these at one of our recent estate sales. These were good old ones. There are many repros out there, so if you’re trying to buy the real thing, examine the cast iron to make sure it is smooth, with minimal open pores. Reproductions are usually much more coarse. Look for smooth enamel paints with signs of wear where they would occur with use and handling. New, “aged” doorstops may just have scuffs scattered about at random.
